Federal skilled worker applications received after June 26, 2010 will be assessed for eligibility according to a new set of instructions issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. As Canada's labour needs change, new instructions will be issued.
In order to qualify, you must be in ONE of the following groups:

  • be a skilled worker who has at least one year of experience in one of these 29 designated occupations:
  1. Primary Production Managers (except agriculture)
  2. Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management
  3. Insurance Adjusters and Claims Examiners
  4. Restaurant and Food Service Managers
  5. Biologists and Related Scientists
  6. Architects
  7. Dentists
  8. Pharmacists
  9. Dental Hygienists & Dental Therapists
  10. Psychologists
  11. Social Workers
  12. Specialist Physicians
  13. General Practitioners and Family Physicians
  14. Physiotherapists
  15. Licensed Practical Nurses
  16. Registered Nurses
  17. Medical Radiation Technologists
  18. Chefs
  19. Cooks
  20. Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades
  21. Contractors and Supervisors, Mechanic Trades
  22. Electricians (except Industrial & Power System)
  23. Industrial Electricians
  24. Plumbers
  25. Welders & Related Machine Operators
  26. Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics
  27. Crane Operators
  28. Drillers & Blasters - Surface Mining, Quarrying & Construction

  • have an offer of arranged employment approved by HRSDC, or
  • be a foreign national living legally in Canada for one year as a temporary foreign worker or an international student.

If you meet one of the above criteria, your application will then be assessed according to the "points system". You must earn 67 points in the selection factors below. Points are awarded to the applicants on the basis of the following factors:

  • Education (maximum 25 points)
  • Proficiency in English and/or French (maximum 24 points)
  • Work Experience (maximum 21 points)
  • Age (maximum 10 points)
  • Arranged Employment (maximum 10 points)
  • Adaptability (maximum 10 points)
